MEXICAN RESTAURANTS IN TORONTO

247 Queen Street West (near University) Another taco place (which delivers). Includes esquites (corn off the cob) and Mexican soft drinks.

69 Kensington Avenue (Kensington Market) This is a very small space but certainly very popular, as it is hard to find a seat. The menu looks authentic enough, with some lesser known items (pulpos en salsa verde).

504 Adelaide St. W. Another taquería that looks promising. Campechano literally means "from the state of Campeche", and it is also a style of taco that contains many meats. Photo credit: Yelp

1736 Jane Street. (Just North of Lawrence) Under new management. The previous owner had very authentic recipes (best chorizo in Toronto). I need to go back to see if the new owner kept the recipes.

4000 Steeles Ave W., Unit 16 (Steeles & Weston) Regular Mexican "antojitos": tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, nachos.

501 College St (W. of Bathurst) "Carnitas" is the name of the famous Mexican braised/roasted pork dish, usually eaten in tacos. Carnitas is the diminutive of carnes (meats), and they specialize in tacos (including a carnita taco). Photo from Blogto.com.

2222A Queen St. E. (Beaches) Named after a famous street (and subway station) in Mexico City. Pronounced "sho-la." See an article on this restaurant in Toronto Life: http://www.torontolife.com/daily-dish/openings/2013/09/04/xola-toronto-restaurants/ Photo from Toronto Life.com.

999 Eglinton Avenue West (near Allan Road) Inspired by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

99 Danforth Avenue (Broadview) Pachuco refers to the dandy, mobster-inspired style in Mexico's '40s and '50s. Not to be confused with Pachuca, the capital city of the Mexican state of Hidalgo (where my father is from).

809 St Clair Ave West (between Oakwood and Vaughn) "Asada" means "cooked in dry heat" (that is, "roasted", "broiled", or more commonly, "grilled"), and because of the feminine form, it suggests meat (beef).
Here is a list of Mexican food restaurants to look out for.
